MUSIC AND DANCE IN INUIT ART. Music has always been an important part of Inuit culture. Personal songs were composed for all types of circumstances: hunting successes, hardships, songs of contest, songs of satire, humourous songs, love songs, hatred songs, songs about legends that have been part of Inuit music for centuries. Some songs were rivalry songs, where two enemies would insult each other through lyrics. Every song was a story in itself, reflecting the life experiences of the composer.
